industrial organization

i meant to post this thursday or friday, anyway, the day this happened was wednesday.

so, i am takin a class called industrial organization (IO) with dr beil. you may be aware of the phrase "economist do it with models." econ models are graphs that explain our reasoning. well, in this class, and most upper level classes, the models get pretty complicated with many curves and several import points of intersection.

the solution to this, is to take many different colored pens with you to class. on wednesday, we were looking at the typical model a monopolist faces. as soon as it started getting gritty, you can here people messin around in their bags. then, *click*, *click*, *click*, and can hear maddd pen tops being taken off. i look around and every econ dork in the room in straight note taking with two to three pens in their hands at once. hear whispers of "hey man, can i borrow your green"

the pic is from my notebook, a hard thing to get a pic of on a camara phone...
to finish talkin about IO, it's with dr beil. he is by far the best teacher i have had at auburn. it's a shame i will only take one class from him. he is crisp with his explanations, manages the class well, and actually appears to want to be there. i'm jealous of richard who is takin IO, his third beil class.

blaaaaahhh

marshall and kelsey are going on. last night, penny and ari, some of kelseys friends, coordinated a going away dinner for marshall and kelsey. marshall is one of my best friends in the world, and kelsey has always been good to me as well. it's going to be wierd not having them around anymore. it's times like these when you have to realize that your friends are moving on to places of better opportunity. i hope they get settled in well in raleigh and begin making new friends instantly.

i know this is a pretty generic post, but here in the next couple im gonna write one with a better story. just cant do it right now.

strummin at the struttin

last night, chad and i went out to the strutting duck to hear our friend riley play. it was a very small crowd, but one of the chillest nights. good food, cold ones, and music. riley played well and even let me do a couple during his break.

bebops first set list
bartender - dmb
the fox - nickelcreek
collide - howie day

during my tunes i was super nervous, it was the first time i had played in public before. i doubt that happens again soon. i screwed them songs up!

quote of the night:
"if i had three different wives, i wouldnt want them to like each other" - riley

crackheads and sleepwalkers

this entry is about crackheads and sleepwalkers, both of which are the bulk of people awake from 3:30am - 4:30am. crackheads dont sleep and sleepwalkers dont go to bed - or stay there at least. which one am i? well, i'm not literally a crackhead, and am not really asleep, but i'm up.

anyways, the other day i was talkin with folks about people we work with. my buddy snap was talking about how there are some crackheads where he works. he doesnt mind them, snap is as accepting a person as anyone. in fact, i recorded him as saying "some of those crackheads work hard, man!"

on to the sleepwalking. this morning i am up at 2:30, and cant go back to sleep. therefore i decided to go out on the town. take a look around to see what was going on. tiger town was empty, and i was the only patron at starbucks. one other person came while i was there. while i was there, a song with "i'm sleep walking" as the chorus was playing. i thought that was too perfect given the time. starbucks at 3am is fun. even got a copy of the times already.

shine

so i was buying beer in the gas station saturday night after work. while i was checking out, i was listening to the radio the cashier had as background noise. we both got really caught up listening to the song. a calm, catchy song "shine" by collective soul. we were both so into the song, i was entering my pin, she didnt notice. this "zone out" lasted about 30 seconds.

it's times like these that make you realize that you have some sort of connection with everyone on the planet. i suppose the connection i have with the clerk at circle k is that we like "shine" and will somewhat disappear from the scene when we hear it. i wish life would slow down more often. i believe that in the united states we go too involved with rushing around and not truely living in the present.

i do not think it was a coincidence that music was the reason the cashier and i paused for a moment. everyone knows that music is capable of stirring the smallest emotions in all of us.

i think i am going to blog more about music in the near future...

new 9-5, or 3-close rather

Moes no more! Well, no more moe after next week. Count'em down, 6 more shifts to go.

Here's the deal:
While playing golf with Chris Mc. I casually asked him if Amsterdam's needed kitchen help. He said he thought so, would ask around, and let me know. Tuesday he calls, and said to come in and apply if I was really interested, they needed people PRONTO! I stopped what I was doing and went, much like on Monday when Chris called and asked if i could be at Moore's Mill in 30 minutes.

So after a good talk with the head kitchen manager, David. I was hired to be a cook. I am really excited about this new job. Moes is really redundent. Working as a cook is going to teach me new skills to carry with me for a while. Plus, it's back to the bottom of the ladder. From here, I can see if I would like to move up at Amsterdam's. It goes without saying that I am going to strive for raises, but maybe in the long run managing for a bit might be of interest.

For now, I am going to love learning a new job, meeting new people, and starting off well in school for the final semester. Neat beginning. Very excited!

Peace ya'll!

Oh yea...'09

2009 started off well for another reason....Bama choking.

Now their dream season ends with 2 losses and nothing but a division title in a year when the SEC West was down. Congrats Bammers on embarrassing the SEC in our home BCS bowl game. Glad someone could offer Utah the opportunity to think they almost deserve a shot at the NC. Moreover, I feel strongly that some mag that doesnt recognize conference championships or bowl games will name you fools national champs and you will claim it.

'09

2009 started off well. i guess you could say that's because '08 ended well. Andrew, Frank, and I headed down to pensacola on nye to stay with Evans (Tara was there too). We rang in the new year down at Seville Quarter. The piano men at that bar are incredible. It's the second time ive been entertained by those guys. I am thoroughly amazed at their music skills.

Other highlights of the night:
-Quality/Fast Bartenders
-No quarrels with strangers
-Remember everything
-Watchin Tara fall off the barstool...twice. Lol. Tara! You will never hear the end of that!

Moving on to new years day. Everyone was in recovery mode till about 1pm. Then we finally got out to the beach where it was 55 degrees and windy. The four of us played bocci. While we were playing we witnessed the wierdest action in the world. A young lady went out on the beach with a broom and starting sweeping. Seriously, Franky Frank snapped a pic, when/if i get it from him i'll post it. We have no idea what she was doing, but it was odd to say the least.

Cheers to '09
